In this workshop you will learn what the Science of Reading (SOR) is (and isn’t) and what it tells us about reading development.  You will understand how to use the Montessori language curriculum and materials to support the literacy and cognitive skills described by SOR as important for future reading achievement.  And you will learn how to use the Montessori curriculum to assess and support children’s specific learning challenges.  By the end of this workshop you will have the knowledge and understanding to answer the following questions:

  • What is the science of reading (SOR)?
  • How does the Montessori Language Curriculum measure up?
  • What can Montessori learn from the science of reading?
  • What can the science of reading learn from Montessori?
