Sewing Made Simple

Learn how to create a sewing and weaving curriculum that children will love even if you’re a sewing novice.

Cost: $100 + $25 materials fee

PD Credit: 6 hours of AMS PD credit upon AMS approval

A set of sewing and weaving activities is compelling part of a Montessori practical life and arts curriculum.  In this workshop, you will learn a scope and sequence that will enable children to grow their skills from basic lacing to advanced embroidery.  The spiral nature of the curriculum enables children’s independence and builds their confidence aligned with Montessori philosophy and pedagogy.  The skills they learn can also transfer to other areas of the classroom, enabling them to create a “stuffed globe” from the world puzzle map and to utilize a “book making” activity for everything from metal inset to “parts-of” studies.  At the end of this workshop you will leave with:

  • A detailed description of the scope and sequence
  • Write-ups for each activity, including a specific material list for each
  • Hands-on practice with each activity
  • New sewing and embroidery skills of your own!
